Brief outline of bfelite
The Blackface Sire Reference Co. or bfelite is the co-ordinator of the sire reference scheme for Scottish Blackface sheep.
We are a group of committed and progressive breeders, who have been performance recording for many years, and linking flocks, so determining the most productive sheep in a large gene pool since 1993.
Alongside this, many members have been practicing management techniques that ensure the sheep bred in the scheme are self reliant and productive under normal commercial hill management.
Why use bfelite sheep and what are the benefits?
Performance recorded hill sheep (of any breed) can help a commercial hill farmer have a sheep stock that are better mothers, more milky, producing heavier lambs, with finished lambs having improved carcasses (better weight & conformation) and therefore better returns. More information on what is involved and what has been achieved in the Scottish Blackface Sire Reference scheme is available here.
